Bao Tranchi is a multifaceted one-woman design house based in Los Angeles working in both fashion & film. Her namesake brand is known for its edgy vision of carving out the female form in super-sexy, unexpected graphic ways. She loves creating a new form of Sexy. Everything is custom made with meticulous craftsmanship from a couture point of view.
In 2015, the Bodywear Collection was added to the line making its major debut on Selena Gomez and Serayah McNeil in Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video. Rita Ora made her stunning performance for London Pride 2015 in a BAO TRANCHI bodysuit. Bao’s mission is to turn edgy bodywear into an everyday lifestyle look.
As a Costume designer, she specializes in bringing extraordinary characters to life. She posesses an encyclopedic knowledge of costume history, an innate understanding of character psychology, and a meticulous attention to color, texture and silhouette. She is classically trained in tailoring, sewing, patternmaking and illustration which makes her a successful leader to her costume team. Bao has designed over 6 full length features and multiple music videos in both America and Asia.
Upon graduating from Otis College of Art& Design with a BFA in Fashion Design, Bao was immediately accepted into the Costume Designer’s Guild. With her creative vision and strong work ethic, Bao was hired to work on major feature films and productions such as “Charlie’s Angels,” “Queen of the Damned,” Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” Madonna’s “Drowned World Tour”, Rolling Stone Magazine, Janet Jackson and Destiny’s Child music videos and two of Kelly Clarkson’s world tours. Her clothes have since been worn by such celebrities as Selena Gomez, Kristen Stewart, Jessica Alba, Janet Jackson, Salma Hayek, Christina Milian, Paris Hilton, Evangeline Lilly, Naomi Watts, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Courtney Cox. Her work has also been featured in advertising campaigns for Paul Mitchell, America’s Next Top Model, Pretty Little Liars, Vampie Diaries, Melrose Place, and Nikita.
Bao has also appeared as a guest design judge on multiple television shows such as America’s Next Top Model, Project Ruway, Master Chef, Antonio’s Treatment on HGTV, and TLC’s Faking It. From 2007-2010, Bao Tranchi’s designs and story were exhibited at the Smithsonian Museum.
